New Bing Surf Shop Is Now Open!
1959
Summer of 1959 Rick Stoner and I made 8 to 10 boards in my parents garage. After making too much smell and dust we were kicked out and in the fall of 1959 we opened my first shop as "Bing & Rick Surfboards" 1338 Strand Hermosa Beach. A year later I bought Rick out and changed it to Bing Surfboards.
1961
Spring of 1961, after a year on the strand, because of too much dust and noise again, I was forced to move to 598-C Meyer Lane Redondo Beach. It was sales and factory all in one shop.
1962
1820 Pacific Coast Hwy, Hermosa Beach was my first showroom and sales only shop. Opened in June of '62.
1963
In Spring of 1963 we opened a second sales shop inland to 511 Whittier Blvd. Whittier, Ca.
1963
In the fall of 1963 we moved our production to 1309 Bard St. Hermosa Beach.
1969
Spring of 1969 we moved the factory to 725 Cypress in Hermosa Beach.
1970
Spring of 1970 we moved the sales shop to 931 Pacific Coast Hwy. Hermosa. We sold our boards, Hobie Catamarans and we built and sold Meyers Manx dune buggies.
1974
G&S located at 5465 Gaines St. San Diego, CA 92110 licensed and built Bing Surfboards from 1974 to 1989. Mike Eaton was the main shaper for Bing during this period.
1989
Mike Eaton managed the Bing surfboard label and production through his shop in Mission Beach, San Diego, CA until 2000
2000
Matt and I ( Bing ) enter into a partnership of the brand Bing Surfboards and began building boards back in Hermosa Beach, CA close to the old Cypress location.
2010
Matt and Margaret Calvani moved shaping and board production into the original Channin Factory. Encinitas, CA.
2012
In November 2012, Bing Surf Shop opens at 804 North Coast Highway 101, Encinitas, CA.
2019
Bing Surfboards celebrates our 60th year of making high-quality surfboards made in California. Doors close at the 804 location, but reopen up the street at 974 North Coast Highway, 101 Leucadia, CA!

When and where did you start surfing? Describe your first surfboard.
I started surfing when I was about 15 in Virginia Beach, and my first board was an old funboard from WRV that was about 7’6” and had glass on thrusters and an insane airbrush.
