Location: Encinitas, CA on the Coast Hwy 101
Event: The official Grand Opening of the new Bing Surf Shop
Date: November 2, 2013

2 years in the making, the new Bing Surf Shop is now a reality. Royce Cansler in conjunction with Matt and Margaret at Bing Surfboards have worked to open a new retail location down the street from their Factory in Encinitas. The premise was to make a surf shop that once again focused on the surfboard.

Bing Surf Shop

“When I was 13 years old my dad would take me to the Bing Shop in Hermosa Beach after surfing 22nd St. or the Redondo Breakwater. Like most surfers, the anticipation of seeing, holding and touching the latest shapes was hard to contain. Single brand surf shops were the order of the day, and the passion and excitement of surfing and the surfboards we rode were the focus. It is this element we wanted to rekindle in the Bing Shop of today, passion and focus on surfing and surfboards…” – Royce Cansler

The turnout was a who’s who of surfboard shapers with the likes of Matt Calvani, Bing Copeland, Lance Carson, Gene Cooper, Mike Hynson, Roger Hinds, Bill Shrosbee, Jimmy Phillips, Bob Mitsven, Jed Noll, Jon Wegener, Gary Larson, Donny Brink, Manny Caro, Christine Brailsford and Pendo. It was awesome to see the surfboard shaping community out in full force supporting the new Bing Surf Shop. The Bing family was stoked and honored to have such a turnout.

Everyone enjoyed the food by Mozy’s and the beer by The Lost Abbey and Longboard Island Lager. The music was provided by Rich Knight laying down smooth guitar riffs that fit the night perfectly. Overall it was a great night to celebrate surfboards and the Southern California surfing culture.

If you missed the party head over to our Facebook page to see the images from the night’s festivities. We hope you come by and visit our new store. ‘Til next time…

THE DESTINATION IS THE DESTINATION
THE DESTINATION IS THE DESTINATION

Travel is all about getting somewhere else. The journey, comically titled “the destination,” by some real masochists, feels more to me like a practical joke then a zen-buddha lesson in being present; a blur of drinking $9 Chardonnay while trying to stream Lego Batman across the isle and entertain a baby with a series of 10 second activities (tray table, crackers, seatbelt, headphones!).

EL CAMPEON
EL CAMPEON

August 22, 2023

At the beginning, it was just an idea, but at the same time, a challenge I had set for myself some time ago. Honestly, I saw it as complicated since it was my first time traveling alone to Europe, and I was curious and nervous because I was literally going to another country. The only thing that reassured me was being able to speak Spanish over there. But, of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of the entire BAPU beachware team who encouraged me and gave me the motivation not to doubt myself and make this a fulfilled goal, we organized various activities while presenting the short film "El Gordo" to raise funds for this trip.
