THE TRUCK STOP POLAR FLEECE LINED JACKET BY BING

Chris Del Moro was asked to come up with a jacket designed specifically for the Winter climates along the coast of California. We wanted something that was warm enough to withstand the dawn patrol surf checks along the bluffs from Point Loma to Kelly’s Cove but not so bulky you couldn’t wear it throughout the day. What came to be was a nylon shell that would repel rain and dampness with a detachable nylon hood that could be easily removed as the temperatures climbed during the day. We opted for a polar fleece lining in the body and hood that would be warm and cozy. For the sleeves a quilted nylon lining with a light poly fill insulation is used to make it easy to slide on when layering it over other fabric layers like denim, chambray, thermal and flannel shirts; often worn under jackets this time of year. A knit cuff is used that seals out the cold while easily accommodating gloves, watches, etc.

The Truck Stop Jacket is a timeless piece that represents the mission statement of Bing Surf Apparel: Classic California coastal quality goods designed and built to pass the test of time.

Travel is all about getting somewhere else. The journey, comically titled “the destination,” by some real masochists, feels more to me like a practical joke then a zen-buddha lesson in being present; a blur of drinking $9 Chardonnay while trying to stream Lego Batman across the isle and entertain a baby with a series of 10 second activities (tray table, crackers, seatbelt, headphones!).

EL CAMPEON
EL CAMPEON

August 22, 2023

At the beginning, it was just an idea, but at the same time, a challenge I had set for myself some time ago. Honestly, I saw it as complicated since it was my first time traveling alone to Europe, and I was curious and nervous because I was literally going to another country. The only thing that reassured me was being able to speak Spanish over there. But, of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of the entire BAPU beachware team who encouraged me and gave me the motivation not to doubt myself and make this a fulfilled goal, we organized various activities while presenting the short film "El Gordo" to raise funds for this trip.
