Think Bing Movie Night at Bing Surf Shop

September 04, 2019

On Saturday, August 31st, we hosted a surf movie night featuring our 60th Anniversary documentary film 'THINK BING' directed by Bryce Lowe White. Malcolm Campbell spoke about his relationship with Bing Copeland dating back to the early 70s when he and his brother Duncan were just beginning to make their visions become reality. We set the screen up in the Coffee Coffee courtyard, which is a great spot for surf movies and stoked the crowd out with an hour of good times. Good food was served up by Moon Age Food Co, and adult beverages were supplied by Duck Foot. Thanks for everyone that showed up! Stay tuned for another surf movie night soon.

Travel is all about getting somewhere else. The journey, comically titled “the destination,” by some real masochists, feels more to me like a practical joke then a zen-buddha lesson in being present; a blur of drinking $9 Chardonnay while trying to stream Lego Batman across the isle and entertain a baby with a series of 10 second activities (tray table, crackers, seatbelt, headphones!).

I started surfing when I was about 15 in Virginia Beach, and my first board was an old funboard from WRV that was about 7’6” and had glass on thrusters and an insane airbrush.

The first Bing I bought was from Bing Surf Shop and it was the Continental model. I think it’s the best noserider in the world and works great for any long, lined up wave. I’ve been riding it for about two years. I also just bought a new Izzy Rider Type II it is amazing! It’s so fast and turns on a dime. This will be the board I ride in surf contests.
