After the release of the original Izzy Rider, Israel and I consistently worked on improving the model to better suit Israel’s style and approach to logging. We made a major change to the original by removing the step deck in the tail that was inspired by the Silver Spoon. We tried a number of different versions, mostly focusing on the nose template and rocker, as well as removing the edge from most of the tail.
While Israel and new team rider and fellow surfer Miguel Sinclair from Sayulita, Mexico were in California, they both surfed an updated version of the original. Although it wasn’t exactly what we were looking for, I knew from both of their feedback what needed to be changed.
Israel went back to Mexico and I went to shaping the Type 2, knowing the final changes I had to make. Miguel test rode the new version and it was magic. Best described as a blend between the Elevator nose template and rocker, minus the step deck, with a refined tail rocker and bottom contour. The basic tail template and rails in the center were left essentially the same.
The way it rides — this is not a board designed to point and trim. It likes to be pushed and placed in critical areas of the wave. It offers fast, responsive turns and full carves back into the pocket, setting up into a solid noseride. A board that can take your traditional longboarding to another level.
Quote by Miguel Sinclair:
“I find that the Type 2 Izzy Rider offers a perfect blend between locked-in noseriding stability and very playful, yet effortless control from the tail.”
