Bing Visits Bing Surf Shop and Matt Calvani Shapes at the Boardroom Show in Del Mar

A big weekend was in order in Leucadia, CA and in Del Mar, CA. First off, Bing Copeland, the man who started it all was in town. He stopped into the shop on Saturday to sign books, boards, and hang like the early days of Bing Surfboards. We still have some signed books at the shop, so come by and get one!
Thanks to the @boardroomshow for putting on a great event. Our very own Matt Calvani was in the shaping competition faced against his early mentor, Wayne Rich. They both had to handshape their own version of the Marc Andreini Michael Peterson “Vaquero” model. Without using modern measurement tools to gauge basic dimensions, the shapers were left to feel and eye out the original to determine their approach. When and where did you start surfing? Describe your first surfboard.
I started surfing when I was about 15 in Virginia Beach, and my first board was an old funboard from WRV that was about 7’6” and had glass on thrusters and an insane airbrush.
