Leucadia Artwalk 2017 at Bing Surf Shop Featuring Jeannette Prince

August 24, 2017

For this year’s Leucadia Art Walk, Bing Surf Shop is honored to invite Atelierista Consultant, early child educator and locally-renowned surfer, Jeannette Prince, to join us in leading a children’s art collaboration.

About Jeanette Prince:

As a graphic artist and photographer Jeannette has enjoyed working in the Early Child Development field since 1993.  She earned a Master Teacher Certificate specializing in art from Mira Costa Collage and a certificate awarded by the San Diego Office of Education and the San Diego American Orff Schulwerk Association for “The Introduction to Orff Schulwerk.”  Jeannette created her first atelier environment and was self taught as an Atelierista in the mid 90’s, after first being introduced to the Reggio Approach at Del Mar Hills Nursery School (1993-2005) in 1995. The children were her teachers, as research/training for the Reggio Emilia Approach was not readily available at that time.  Jeannette created Encinitas Country Day School’s first successful art program inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach, 2005-2008, and moved onto developing and designing an indoor/outdoor atelier environment, as the first Atelierista at Apsirations School of Learning in Carlsbad, 2008-2017.  Through the years Jeannette has had training from many Reggio inspired workshops including three trips to Reggio Emilia, Italy in 2005, 2009, and 2015, and a member of the North American Reggio Alliance since 2004.  She has organized Documentation Display Workshops and One on One inspirational training for Atelierista’s requested by Early Childhood Educators from, Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego, presented at Aspirations School of Learning.

Travel is all about getting somewhere else. The journey, comically titled “the destination,” by some real masochists, feels more to me like a practical joke then a zen-buddha lesson in being present; a blur of drinking $9 Chardonnay while trying to stream Lego Batman across the isle and entertain a baby with a series of 10 second activities (tray table, crackers, seatbelt, headphones!).

EL CAMPEON
EL CAMPEON

August 22, 2023

At the beginning, it was just an idea, but at the same time, a challenge I had set for myself some time ago. Honestly, I saw it as complicated since it was my first time traveling alone to Europe, and I was curious and nervous because I was literally going to another country. The only thing that reassured me was being able to speak Spanish over there. But, of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of the entire BAPU beachware team who encouraged me and gave me the motivation not to doubt myself and make this a fulfilled goal, we organized various activities while presenting the short film "El Gordo" to raise funds for this trip.
