That was the first thing surfer, historian, and author (and then 16-year-old) Chris Ahrens heard about Windansea, the infamous La Jolla, California reef break equally notorious for its local crews throughout the decades as for its waves. The statement came from the legendary Dale Velzy and at that moment, Ahrens’ interest in the spot was piqued.
